Biostimulant and biopesticide potential of microalgae growing in piggery wastewater

چکیده
Pig farming generates highly polluting wastewaters which entail serious environmental issues when not adequately managed. Microalgae systems can be promising for cost, energy and environment-efficient treatment of piggery wastewater (PWW). Aside from clean water, the produced biomass used as biostimulants biopesticides contributing to a more sustainable agriculture. Three microalgae (Tetradesmus obliquus, Chlorella protothecoides, vulgaris) one cyanobacterium (Synechocystis sp.) were selected after preliminary screening in diluted (1:20) treat PWW. The nutrient removals 62-79% COD (chemical oxygen demand), 84-92% TKN (total Kjeldahl nitrogen), 79-92% NH4+ over 96% PO43?. T. obliquus C. protothecoides most efficient ones. After treating PWW, biomass, at 0.5 g L?1, was assessed biostimulant seed germination, root/shoot growth, pigment content tomato, watercress, cucumber, soybean, wheat, barley seeds. We observed an overall increase on germination index (GI) microalgae-treated seeds, owing development longer roots, especially vulgaris treatments. treatments effective cucumber seeds (75-138% GI increase). biopesticide activity against Fusarium oxysporum also evaluated 1, 2.5 5 L?1 culture. Except Synechocystis sp., all tested inhibited fungus with achieving inhibitions above 40% concentrations.

متن کاملToxicity Evaluation of Antibiotics in Piggery Wastewater by Luminescent Bacteria
Antibiotics, as special pollutants in piggery wastewater, have negative effects on wastewater treatment processes. However, it is difficult to obtain a clear understanding of the toxic potency of antibiotics using the common inhibitory experiments of wastewater because of their low concentrations. Therefore, this study for the first time reports research on examining the toxic strength of pigge...
متن کاملMicroalgae Cultivation in Wastewater for Nutrient Removal
Wastewater is the spent or used water containing dissolved or suspended solids such as pollutants and microbes, including nutrients. The wastewater discharged into the water bodies are hazardous to environment and cause various health problems in human beings. Eutrophication is one such major environmental problem caused due to the discharge of nutrient rich wastewater into the nearby water bod...
متن کاملIsolation of microalgae with potential for integrated biomass production and nutrient removal from wastewater
Abstract The present study firstly investigates the variations of microalgae in the constructed wetland. Then one of the potential microalgal species was isolated and cultured in autotrophic and mixotrophic growth to compare the performance on biomass production and to evaluate the ability of wastewater treatment and simultaneous biodiesel production. Scenedesmus sp. was an abundant strain in t...
